Hitchcock Nature Center - Controlled Burn

They like to burn Hitchcock Nature Center north of Council Bluffs IA every so often to keep the forest happy and healthy. These are always really chill (unlike the wildfires I used to shoot). They light stuff on fire, there’s modest flames and L O T S of smoke. The smoke makes for really just stunning colors towards sunset.

This time around for the fires I got to bum a Hasselblad X1D. I didn’t really have a chance to learn the camera before hand so some shots ended up a little underexposed as I figured out it’s interface. That interface is…. pretty bad after using Canon for so long. However the file quality just completely destroys my 5Ds even though they are the same resolution. Really just no competition in terms of detail, color, and dynamic range. It hurts but it should be better considering X1D is $11,000 for the camera and lens.

Film Shots

I get it an itch every so often to shoot film. I never really take it at all seriously which makes it fun. I don’t really enjoy the process and having to choose my white balance before hand is a massive bore. Still can be a good giggle at times. These are Ilford fp4 and Kodak Ektar shot on a elan 7 and Bronica.
